A non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for mental health by providing musical opportunities.
Mental health advocacy is necessary to promote the significance of mental health and requires each and every individual's support. Music Box Project seeks to use music, a powerful tool in uniting a community, as a means of encouraging our communities to rally against any existing stigma.
Music Box Project offers musicians of all skill levels several opportunities to develop their artistic aptitude. Now, music is not only for enjoyment, but also for the improvement of our community's health.
Read about our Founder and President, Chandra Gangavarapu, and Music Box Project in the Chicago Tribune here. Thank you to Suzanna Baker for covering this story.
Chandra is a rising senior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy and has been a musician from a very young age. Knowing the importance of mental wellness, she wanted to raise awareness for mental health, and believes that music is an effective tool in doing so by bringing communities together. Aside from running Music Box Project, she produces her own music in the group called AURA, plays violin in the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and learns Indian Carnatic singing.
Disha Dureja’s passion for music began as a kid playing tabla (indian drum) and singing in her congregation. Ever since, music has played a fundamental role in her life and wellbeing. She grew up taking every opportunity she got to sing by participating in choirs, musicals, and other ensembles outside of school. She is currently taking online courses to grow her musical knowledge and always sings in her free time for fun. She became apart of the Music Box Project because she knows the positive impact music has had on her life and wants to share that love with others. She is incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be on board and is excited for the future of the Music Box Project!
Francesca Dumitrescu is incredibly excited to have the opportunity to be a director for the Music Box Project! Music has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember, from her dad always playing Queen in the car to years of being an alto in choir and clarinetist in band. Like many, music has allowed Francesca to get out of her head and connect with others. She truly does believe that music helps all types of people, and with the Music Box Project, she is grateful to bring music into lives that need it!
Caroline’s passion for music was sparked as soon as she started piano lessons at age 5. Since then, she has taken up many additional instruments and musical opportunities. In her day to day life, she can be found practicing, writing songs, and performing at local venues. In her academic life, she can be found spreading her love of music throughout campus through both solo and group performances, and through involvement in various musical clubs. She is committed to the Music Box Project’s mission, and is incredibly excited to be on board!
